For most routes we need the following information: vehicle registration, vehicle length, whether the vehicle is loaded or empty, whether dangerous goods are on board, whether the vehicle needs an electrical connection during the crossing, and whether there is a preferred route, date and time.
Together with the quote for the route concerned you will receive the details of your contact person. In some cases you will first be contacted by telephone to discuss preferences regarding the route or the vessel.
Regular customers usually receive a hotline number from the booking partners that is also staffed at weekends and on public holidays. Please ask about this when booking.
Our booking partners usually accept even very short-notice bookings. Bookings made the day before shipment or several days in advance naturally run more smoothly.
You will normally receive confirmation of truck ferry bookings within a few hours, often just as quickly as the quotes. At peak times and for some difficult routes it can take a little longer. Confirmations are usually sent by fax or email. Please state your preference when booking.
Yes, lkwfaehren only arranges truck shipments and quotes for Europe and North Africa.
Your booking can be cancelled to the extent permitted by the booking and business terms of the respective ferry operator and booking partner. A cancellation fee is charged for some routes and booking partners. To avoid unnecessary costs, we recommend booking crossings only for transports that your customers have already commissioned.
Some operators will still ship you on the basis of the reference number, with others this can lead to refusal of carriage. You should therefore inform your booking partner and the operator immediately if one or more details of your shipment change.
Our booking partners generally accept the usual national and international means of payment, such as VISA, EuroCard, MasterCard and conventional bank transfers – please state your payment preference when booking. If you book regularly with our booking partner, you can apply for a credit account. The corresponding check is usually carried out on the same working day. Clarifying the payment question is normally a precondition for using our booking partners' booking service.
As soon as all questions about the crossing have been settled and our booking partner has received a binding space commitment from the operator concerned, you will normally receive a confirmation from the booking partner. At peak times and for some difficult routes this can take a little longer.
Please use the booking confirmation to check that all details match your requirements. Besides the departure date and times, the ports and the reporting address matter just as much. Many operators issue a separate reference number in addition to the vehicle registration, which has to be quoted when checking in at the port. Some countries have specific requirements regarding visas, passports or other entry conditions. Without warranty as to accuracy or completeness, our booking partner will try to inform you of such rules in good time so that the successful execution of your transport order is not put at risk. If you are travelling to a country for the first time or are unsure, we recommend obtaining the necessary information on customs and entry requirements from the consulate or embassy of the country concerned.
Ferry operators are constantly changing their fleet composition and their choice of routes. In addition there are strong seasonal fluctuations, which can vary from region to region. For this reason a complete, up-to-date overview is barely possible. You are welcome to ask us about timetables at any time – simply fill in the booking enquiry form.
Additional statutory rules apply to shipping trucks carrying dangerous goods. Please always inform us in good time and in full if you intend to ship a truck with a dangerous goods load.
If your cargo has to be kept at a controlled temperature without interruption during the crossing, many ferries offer the option of an electrical connection for the refrigeration unit. Please inform your booking agent of this in good time so that a corresponding request or confirmation can be arranged with the operator. Please note that some ferries do not comply with European standards for electrical connections.
Many operators accept a second driver at no extra charge. On some routes, registering the occupants precisely is a legal requirement. Please always let us know in good time when booking if several people are travelling in the truck.
This is only guaranteed with some operators. Please let us know of any particular requirements in good time when booking.
You can give your credit card details or other personal data to our booking partners by telephone if required.
Liability and insurance terms differ from operator to operator. To insure the vehicle, driver and accompanying persons as well as possible, we advise taking out private or supplementary ferry insurance.
